I’m Jon Sharples, founder of Roman Bicycles.

Built from a lifetime in cycling
Cycling has been a major part of my life for almost four decades. I’ve raced, tested, fitted and coached riders at every level from people preparing for their first event to professional athletes competing at the highest level.
For more than two decades, I’ve also been the founder and head coach of TrainSharp Cycle Coaching. During that time, I’ve worked with thousands of cyclists, helping them understand their bodies, improve their performance and get more from their riding.
That experience taught me something important: even the finest bicycle will never perform at its best if it isn’t right for the person riding it.
Too many riders are sold a standard bike in a standard size, with components selected by a product manager rather than by someone who understands them. The saddle, cockpit, crank length, gearing and wheels may all be excellent individually but that doesn’t mean they work together for that particular rider.
Roman was created to change that.
A bicycle built around you
I wanted to build a bicycle company that began with the rider not a model, a size chart or a list of fashionable components.
Every Roman starts with a conversation. We learn about your body, your riding style, your goals, the roads you ride and how you want your new bike to feel.
We then use our experience in coaching, bike fitting, performance testing and real-world riding to determine the right frame size, position and specification. From your cockpit and crank length to your wheels, tyres, gearing and saddle, every decision has a purpose.

Roman is a premium British performance brand, but it isn’t intended to feel distant or elitist.
You don’t need to be a professional cyclist to appreciate a beautifully made bicycle. You only need to care about how it looks, how it feels and where it might take you.
Every Roman is built in Sussex with close attention to detail and supported by people who genuinely understand cycling. You can speak directly to us, ride the bikes before you decide and remain part of the Roman community long after you have collected your bicycle.
